All the information you need to know is easily found in your Occupancy Agreement and we are here to answer any further questions you may have.

Please refer to the Handbook which will help you understand how Burgmann College works, its ethos, its opportunities for learning, participation and leadership and its standards and codes of behaviour. The College has a rich, distinctive lifestyle that is constantly growing and developing. This means that College life is going to be stimulating but also challenging because of the cooperation, care and consideration needed when living closely with over 378 residents from all over the world studying a full range of degrees from Bachelor to PhD.

The College is an academic community, with full value given to both semesters. We encourage you to develop to your full academic potential at the same time as you contribute to and benefit from being part of the College.

Burgmann expects all residents to give as well as receive academic support from each other. The great opportunity that the College provides is that of finding a balance between academic study and exploring, developing and enjoying other interests, whatever they may be - intellectual, social, sporting, religious, political and artistic, etc. The search for the right balance for you, at this stage of your life, can be exciting; it’s one for which each individual is responsible.

Burgmann is a friendly College, with a diverse range of residents. There are no initiations. New residents enter as equals with later year residents. The College has great leadership including residential staff who live on site (Principal, Deputy Principal, College Dean and Residential Fellows), caring and hardworking administrative and operational staff, enviable food and function catering (Chartwells) and a fine tradition of senior student leadership including Residential Advisors and your BRA House Committee. Their hard work and seniority is respected on the basis of service and not status. There is only one level of status – as a member of the Burgmann community. Burgmann’s distinctive community thrives on the participation of its members, and their willingness to use their talents, abilities and energies for the common good, recognising a diversity of models of involvement.
